Jana Fodie

My name is Jana Fodie. I grew up in Oamaru and attended Waitaki Girls’ High School. After school I moved to Dunedin to study teaching at Otago University. I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher so I could have the same positive impact on children’s growth and development, as my teachers had on me. My favourite subjects growing up were art and literacy, and now I am even more passionate about these subjects in my teaching. I love giving children the opportunity to let their creativity flow and afterwards share their learning with their friends and whanau. I am very excited, and feel very privileged to be a part of this amazing, growing community.

I am absolutely elated to join the team at Lemonwood Grove School | Te Uru Tarata and cannot wait to bring my knowledge and skill sets to this budding landscape. I look forward to building authentic relationships with our learners and supporting them in finding their place in the world. I have previously worked as a teacher aide, as well as a gardener and I am currently studying towards a teaching degree.
When not at Lemonwood Grove or studying I can be found playing my talharpa (an old viking age fiddle), making paintings and sculptures, tinkering with electronics and coding, or learning about psychology and philosophy.
I am also heavily interested in Permaculture Gardening and Food Forestry as a viable alternative to modern agriculture, and have spent the last 10 years expanding my understandings of these. I wish to develop and teach a skills based curriculum based around Permaculture systems, with inspiration from the Nordic Outdoor/Forest Kindergartens.
